Studies on the Constituents of the Higher Fungi of Korea (29)

Abstract
It was reported that polysaccharides from certain higher fungi have high antitumor activities against sarcoma 180 and some other tumors. We have already reported on the antitumor activities and their chemistry of antineoplastic polysaccharries from Korean higher fungi. This paper reports the results of another species of Korean Basidiomycetes containing antitumor polysaccharides.
A polysaccharide fraction, which was obtained from the carpophores of Cryptoporus volvatus (Pk.) Hubb., was found to be highly effective against sarcoma 180 implanted subcutaneously in the left armpits of A-strain mice. The inhibition ratio was 80.4% (50§·/§¸, ten days, i.p.) and 70.3%(20§·/§¸, ten days, i.p.) respectively. This polysaccharide was composed of a polysaccharide (55.3%) and a protein (18.2%). From the hydrolyzate of the polysaccharide fraction, four monosaccharides were identified using GLC.
